Our client is an agricultural company located in the northern region of Ukraine. The main activity is the cultivation and sale of grain crops. The business has its own specifics: seasonality, complex and expensive logistics and, as a result, significant fluctuations in profitability. Our task is to help diversify the business and generate additional income for the company.

Characteristics of a biogas plant

Feedstock: Crop residues (corn silage) and livestock waste.

Processing capacity of the plant: 57,000 tons of feedstock per year.

Installed electric capacity: 3.12 MW*e.

Solution

We offered the client an effective and profitable solution — the construction of a biogas plant. The project involved the use of one of the company's agricultural enterprises as a base for implementation: the plant itself was planned to be located on the territory of this enterprise, and the feedstock for it, corn silage, was to be grown on the farmland.

The results of the feasibility analysis made it possible to propose an optimal concept for the future plant, a project implementation plan, and possible sources of funding.

The proposal was approved, and based on the results of the tender, our company was appointed as the general contractor of the project. We effectively implemented the main stages of work:

Developed design and estimate documentation.

Provided full support to the client in development, obtaining construction permits and connection to external networks, as well as advised on raising financing.

Carried out construction and installation works, including all stages from site preparation to commissioning of the finished facility.

Performed a comprehensive installation of technological equipment from our partners HoSt Biogas (Netherlands) and 2G Energietechnik GmbH (Germany).

Manufactured and delivered biogas pre-treatment systems (dehydration and desulfurization).

Сonducted commissioning and brought the plant to its design capacity.

Conclusion

It should be noted that the construction and launch of the facility was carried out by our team during martial law. This became a real challenge for us: we worked under tight deadlines and uncertainty (during the war, the risks of the final project implementation increased); the situation required our specialists to quickly master new technologies and functionality (instead of the planned participation of foreign experts in the project).

For Pro-Energy, this project was the first experience of general contracting and an important step in building a successful future in the bioenergy sector in Ukraine.

The biogas plant for an agricultural enterprise in Chernihiv region has been actively operating since August 2022. The implementation of this project allowed the client to diversify its agricultural business and became an important source of additional income for the company.
