Biogas plants on cattle farms

We convert cattle manure into energy, fertiliser and stable profits for your farm. We develop and implement biogas plants on cattle farms, taking into account the specifics of animal husbandry.

Without a biogas plant:

  • Manure disposal costs are rising.
  • Dependence on electricity and heat supply.
  • Complaints from the public about odour and pollution.
  • Loss of waste potential.
  • Higher environmental standards → fines.

With BSU, you get:

  • Manure disposal = source of income.
  • Autonomous energy supply for farms.
  • An environmentally friendly solution — no odours or emissions.
  • Converting waste into energy and fertiliser.
  • Compliance with international standards.

About raw materials

Cattle manure is a biologically perfect raw material for producing biogas, as it already contains the bacteria necessary for the fermentation process. Producing biogas from pure manure is advantageous in terms of biogas plant design, but the highest yield of biogas is obtained from manure with litter. Industrial biogas production is possible from manure with straw bedding, as well as from bedding on sawdust or sand.

Each biogas production plant from our company is adapted to the type of waste disposal: powerful shredders are integrated for straw, and special collectors are integrated for sand. A reliable biogas plant guarantees process stability regardless of livestock conditions.

Today, modern biogas plants in the agricultural sector convert waste into a liquid resource: green electricity or biomethane. By developing biogas in Ukraine, you are investing in the environmental safety and complete energy independence of your business.

What technology do we use on cattle farms?

For cattle farms, we design CSTR reactors with membrane roofs. This is a classic biogas plant that guarantees stable biogas production. To efficiently obtain biogas from manure, the raw material undergoes homogenisation and heating. For manure with litter, we use an auxiliary stage of physical preparation of the raw material, and for complex substrates (straw), we use hydrolysis. The gas preparation system removes hydrogen sulphide and moisture from the biogas, which helps to increase the operating temperature of the equipment.

The purification system (carbon filters or scrubbers) removes sulphur, and deep dehumidification is critical for equipment longevity. Depending on the business model, the gas is converted into electricity or biomethane for the grid. We recommend combined solutions for energy independence of the enterprise.

All our biogas plants are fully automated with SCADA for monitoring and accounting. As biogas plants are becoming increasingly popular in Ukraine, we provide European-quality engineering. If you are interested in the cost of a biogas plant and the profitability of the project, we will provide an accurate calculation based on your raw material volumes.

    Frequently asked questions

Can manure with straw or sawdust be used in a biogas plant?

Yes, biogas can be produced from manure with bedding, but for effective fermentation, the straw must be pre-shredded. We design biogas plants that take into account these characteristics of the raw materials. This allows for a stable supply of biogas.

What to do if manure is washed away by water?

When manure is washed away by water, the raw material is diluted, which increases the volume of the reactor and heat consumption. We adapt the biogas plant to these conditions: the design includes large-capacity tanks and additional heat exchangers to ensure reliable biogas production from cattle manure. We also recommend the use of co-substrates to ensure efficient use of the fermenter volume.

How much biogas can be obtained from 1 tonne of cattle manure?

On average, 20-80 m³ of biogas can be obtained from 1 tonne of manure without bedding. The output is influenced by moisture content, storage method and animal diet. This level of biogas production makes biogas plants economically viable even for medium-sized farms.

What fertilisers are produced after biogas production from valuable organic fertiliser?

After fermentation, digestate is produced — a valuable fertiliser used in agriculture. This reduces the cost of mineral fertilisers and reduces the carbon footprint. A biogas plant converts waste into energy and fertiliser.

Is it profitable to use biogas for farm energy supply?

Yes, the use of biogas allows farms to become energy independent. Biogas plants in Ukraine already provide farms with heat and electricity. This is especially relevant for cattle complexes, where a stable energy supply is critically important.

Can surplus energy from a biogas plant be sold?

Yes, biogas production allows electricity to be sold to external users. A biogas plant can operate as a mini power plant. This is common practice — biogas plants in Ukraine have already been implemented using this model.

Is it possible to build a plant for producing biomethane from manure?

Yes, we are implementing biogas plants that involve purifying biogas into biomethane. Such biomethane can be exported to the EU — we take certification requirements into account. This opens up a new market for farmers and increases the profitability of biogas from manure.

How much does a biogas plant for a cattle farm cost?

The price depends on the capacity, type of reactor, and method of manure collection. The cost of small biogas plants starts at €500,000, and medium-sized plants start at €2 million. We offer individual calculations and help you choose a biogas plant for your specific needs.
