Two 2+2 MW cogeneration units for an agricultural enterprise

Agricultural enterprises operate in a mode of constant energy consumption. During peak loads and continuous production processes, even short power outages can lead to direct losses. That is why stable and predictable electricity is critically important here, and the centralised grid often does not provide the required level of reliability.

The client approached Pro-Energy with a request to provide the enterprise with a stable power supply for uninterrupted production processes. An additional requirement was the ability to integrate cogeneration units into the overall power system with the potential to support the grid, thereby increasing the flexibility of the facility's energy supply.

Decision

For this project, we implemented an energy solution based on two containerised cogeneration units, designed to ensure stable operation of the agricultural enterprise and integration with the existing energy infrastructure. The key task was not only to meet the enterprise's own electricity needs, but also to create a flexible system with the ability to support the grid.

The implementation lasted from July 2024 to January 2025 and included all key stages — from equipment selection to commissioning of the installations in operating mode. Technical solutions were adopted taking into account the needs of the agricultural enterprise, electricity consumption modes, and requirements for operational stability.

Preparation of equipment for operation in normal modes.

Conclusion

This project has demonstrated that cogeneration is an element of a manageable energy strategy for agricultural enterprises. The installation of two high-capacity units allows for flexible response to changing production loads, planning of energy consumption in line with seasonal needs, and improvement of the overall reliability of the enterprise's energy system.

The case study demonstrates that modern agricultural enterprises are increasingly considering their own generation as part of long-term development — with a focus on stability, scalability, and readiness for integration into the broader energy infrastructure. This approach forms the basis for sustainable business operations in an unstable energy market and increasingly demanding efficiency requirements.
