The project for a cogeneration plant at the Vitagro Energy (VITAGRO Group) biomethane plant, in which the Pro-Energy team participated, was among the winners of the 100 gREen AWARD-2025 in the bioenergy category.
This is a special achievement for our team, as we were involved in the key stage of technology implementation — the supply, installation and commissioning of the cogeneration plant — and we also provide its maintenance services.
Pro-Energy is a partner and integrator of solutions from German cogeneration equipment manufacturer 2G Energy AG in Ukraine, as well as a service partner of the company. This allows us not only to supply equipment, but also to provide full technical support for projects: from integrating the installation into the enterprise’s energy system to commissioning and subsequent maintenance.
It is precisely this model of cooperation — combining the technological experience of an international manufacturer with local engineering expertise — that makes it possible to implement effective cogeneration solutions for Ukrainian enterprises.
The 100 gREen AWARD recognises projects that are making a real difference to Ukraine’s energy sector by improving energy efficiency, reducing dependence on centralised energy sources and cutting CO₂ emissions.

The cogeneration plant at the VITAGRO biomethane plant is one of such examples.
The aim of the project was to reduce the company’s electricity costs and CO₂ emissions.
An analysis of the biomethanisation plant’s operations showed that the company’s average electricity consumption was 300–320 kW. Prior to the installation of the cogeneration unit, the company purchased electricity from the grid at the market tariff for the first voltage class.
On an annual basis, this meant approximately 21 million hryvnia in electricity costs.
The solution was to integrate a cogeneration plant running on biogas produced during the fermentation of organic raw materials at a biogas plant. Part of this biogas is used to produce biomethane after additional purification.

Cogeneration enables the simultaneous production of electricity and heat, which significantly increases energy efficiency. In such systems, the total efficiency can reach 80–90%, as heat that is normally lost is reused.
Power of the cogeneration plant: 400 kW
Annual replacement of electricity from the grid: 2.6 million kWh
CO₂ emissions reduction: over 1,000 tonnes per year
Project budget: 30.9 million UAH
The project is financed by the company’s own funds and a loan from the Ukraine Decarbonisation Fund.
The plant runs on biogas produced by fermenting livestock waste and plant residues.
During the operation of the cogeneration engine:
This heat is used to heat fermenters, which helps keep the process at the biomethane plant running smoothly.
Therefore, the company uses its own energy resources as efficiently as possible.
The project was commissioned on 1 November 2025.
The installation proved its practical value in the very first days of operation: during the period of power supply restrictions, the enterprise was able to operate using its own energy resources.
In addition to the economic effect, the implementation of the project ensures a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions, as part of the electricity from the grid has been replaced by electricity generated from renewable sources.
The 100 gREen AWARD is an industry award that recognises the best projects in the field of renewable energy and decarbonisation in Ukraine.
It is awarded by the Global 100% RE Ukraine initiative, a platform that brings together key players in the green energy market, businesses, expert organisations, and industry associations. The initiative aims to accelerate Ukraine’s transition to renewable energy.
Project selection is carried out by the board of Global 100% RE Ukraine with the participation of relevant industry organisations, in particular the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine.
The award recognises projects that:
The cogeneration plant project at the VITAGRO biomethane plant was one of four winners in the bioenergy category, confirming its importance for the development of renewable energy in Ukraine.
The cogeneration plant at the VITAGRO biomethane plant is an example of how combining bioenergy and distributed generation can improve a company’s energy efficiency, reduce energy costs and cut the carbon footprint of production.
Cogeneration at the VITAGRO biomethane plant is an example of how modern energy solutions help businesses solve several strategic tasks at once: reducing energy costs, increasing energy independence, and reducing CO₂ emissions.
This project was a continuation of cooperation with the customer. Previously, a project for the production of biomethane using equipment integrated with the participation of the Pro-Energy team had already been implemented at the same enterprise.
That is why the installation of a cogeneration plant became the next stage in the development of the plant’s energy infrastructure. For us, this is also an important sign of trust: after the successful implementation of the previous project, the customer once again chose Pro-Energy as a partner for the implementation of a new energy solution.
Such projects are shaping a new energy model in Ukraine — one that is decentralised, efficient and focused on renewable resources.
For the Pro-Energy team, participation in this project was further confirmation that cogeneration technologies can already deliver measurable economic results for businesses today.
If your business consumes significant amounts of electricity and heat, cogeneration can be an effective solution for reducing costs and increasing energy independence.
The Pro-Energy team supports the following projects at all stages:
